In my psychology class I’m currently doing a project on how psychiatry is actually really dumb.

In AP lang I’m creating facebook pages to trivialize the tragic stories of The Joy Luck Club.

In Art History I’m creating a museum completely dedicated to naked people.

In French I’m filming a “fairy tale” with a bunch of slippers (aka feet puppets).

So school right now is simultaneously super stressful and hilarious.

at least there are some cool comedians and its not just dumb stuff. youtube is not a niche platform so they’re going to hafta have something for everybody, even stuff for people whos opinions you hate

So Youtube is doing this comedy thing I guess, and the line up is pretty impressive, but what really bothers me about it the fact that they have amazing names like Pete Holmes, and Jerrod Carmicheal, and Eric and Tim, and Sarah Silverman, and on and on and on, and then they have people like “Kassem G” and “Dax Flame” (Didn’t he stop being a thin like 6 years ago) and “Epic Rap Battles of History,” and the absolutely hilarious guy from “epic mealtime” (you know, the one who’s whole bit is that he’s aggressive, drunk and has a beard?) Okie dokie Youtube.

I just really feel like this is kinda… belittling to the actually comedians on the line up.

So I went and saw The Great Gatsby tonight and I have some thoughts about it.

Okie dokie, so I’ll start this off by saying that I was really really impressed with it. They did an amazing job portraying Nick and Gatsby, but that being said, it was hard to tell just how disillusioned Nick was by the end. I mean it’s obvious if you read the book, but for those who didn’t it would be very hard to actually come to the conclusion that Gatsby really was kinda a loser in a way. I mean they didn’t even bother putting in the funeral scene, like I can understand somethings being left out, but I felt like that was kinda a key scene into Gatsby’s true self.

Furthermore, as I said, I can understand leaving things out for time and everything, but I’m really shocked that they also left out the relationship between Jordan and Nick, since that’s a really good look in to Nick’s thoughts. I mean, I think the movie did a great job showing Nick’s relationship with Gatsby, but I don’t think they really should him for what he was, disillusioned.

Anyway, I thought the casting was amazing, especially for Daisy. Just spot on. There were some other small things that really irked me (i.e. Modern music in the 20’s? No wedding music in hotel scene? No Gatsby’s father at the end? Or MISQUOTING THE FIRST LINE??? That one got my goat)

Also, I went and saw it with my best friends who have both read the book, yet both somehow missed the whole point? Like… By the end of the movie (and also the book) I was really really fed up with Nick and Gatsby, and they were both in love with them? They didn’t get how dumb the two of them were. Which I’m going to just say is more evidence for my first point.

Also, it kinda bothered me that they kept acting like the audience was really dumb and explaining a ton of the symbolism (i.e. Dr. Eckleburg, the shirts, Gatsby himself) but yet, they didn’t explain one of the biggest things that a lot of people are going to miss? Not that explaining it would be much better, I just think they really should have given more hints about how corrupted Gatsby was, and how wrong Nick was about him. (LIKE PUTTING THE FUNERAL SCENE IN. SERIOUSLY IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN TWO MINUTES AND REVEALED A LOT ABOUT THE CHARACTERS)

Okay I think that’s everything. Overall I was really impressed though.
